Cooling System Maintenance Part 1
The cooling system is a very critical part of a car, it maintains proper engine temperature by circulating coolant through the engine. In this series of videos, auto repair expert Scott Cusey and his colleagues will show us the details in cooling system maintenance.
Cooling System Maintenance includes 7 chapters:
Chapter 1: Introduction And Tools Needed
Chapter 2: Checking Coolant Level
Step 1: Determine type of cooling system.
Step 2: Check closed system by marks on recovery bottle.
Step 3: Check non-closed system by distance below filler neck.
Step 4: Add coolant to correct level.
Chapter 3: Inspecting And Testing Engine Coolant
Step 1: Start with a cool engine.
Step 2: Remove radiator cap.
Step 3: Flush and fill if dirty.
Step 4: Test Protectant level.
Step 5: Inspect and reinstall radiator cap.
Chapter 4: Flushing Your Cooling System
Step 1: Start with a cool engine.
Step 2: Install a flushing tee.
Step 3: Connect garden hose to tee.
Step 4: Insert deflector tube into radiator neck.
Step 5: Turn on the water, start vehicle and flush system.
Step 6: After flushing, add radiator cleaner and run vehicle.
Step 7: When finished, drain and flush system again.
Step 8: Add proper mixture of water anti-freeze.
Step 9: Check coolant recovery tank.
Chapter 5: Inspecting And Replacing Coolant Hoses
Step 1: Remove radiator cap with engine cool.
Step 2: Drain coolant into drain pan.
Step 3: Loosen clamps and remove old hose.
Step 4: Compare old and new hoses.
Step 5: Install new hose, check for clearance, and tighten clamps.
Step 6: Close drain plug and refill radiator.
Step 7: Reinstall radiator cap and fill coolant reservoir.
Step 8: Check for leaks.
Step 9: Recheck after engine cools and top off as needed.
Chapter 6: Inspecting And Replacing V-Belts
Step 1: Inspect belt for visible damage.
Step 2: Note belt routing.
Step 3: Loosen adjustment bolt.
Step 4: Relieve belt tension.
Step 5: Compare old and new blet.
Step 6: Install new belt.
Step 7: Adjust belt tension.
Step 8: Check for proper operation.
Chapter 7: Inspecting And Replacing Serpentine Belts
Step 1: Check smoothe side for fraying, glazing, or oil contamination.
Step 2: Inspect ribbed side for breaks, cracks or missing chunks.
Step 3: Note correct belt routing.
Step 4: Loosen belt tensioner and remove belt.
Step 5: Compare old and new belts.
Step 6: Install new belt with correct routing.
Step 7: Start engine and check operation.
